Hobby 2000 72088 Junkers Ju 88 S-1 1/72
The Junkers Ju 88 S-1 was a fast, lightened bomber variant of one of the most versatile German aircraft of World War II. Reduced defensive armament, aerodynamic refinements and powerful engines were intended to give the aircraft enough speed to evade Allied fighters rather than relying on heavy defensive firepower.
Ju 88 S-1 aircraft were operated, among others, by KG 66, a unit involved in specialised night and navigation missions over Western Europe. Its aircraft are particularly interesting for modellers because of the unusual and varied camouflage schemes used during 1943–1944.
Marking options included
- Ju 88 S-1 Z6+NH, 1./KG 66, Estrées-Saint-Denis, France, March 1944.
- Ju 88 S-1 Z6+AH, 1./KG 66, Montdidier, France, late 1943.
- Ju 88 S-1 Z6+BH, 1./KG 66, Avord, France, spring 1944.
- Ju 88 S-1 Z6+GH, 1./KG 66, Avord, France, April 1944.
A major attraction of this release is the selection of four distinctly different camouflage schemes. Although all four aircraft belonged to the same unit and period, their irregular camouflage patterns offer plenty of variety and make this kit an interesting subject for creative airbrush work.
